Statement
Lavoro su delle configurazioni di possibilità.
Mi interessa:
la potenzialità (un’energia che deve ancora compiersi);
lo scarto (tra ciò che programmo e ciò che si compie);
il comportamento (delle cose, dei materiali, delle persone);
la frammentarietà (più che il sistema in sé);

I work with configurations of possibilities.
I am interested in:
potentiality (an energy yet to be fulfilled);
the gap (between what I programme and what actually takes place);
behaviour (of things, materials, and people);
fragmentation (rather than the system itself);
syntax (rather than style).
I focus on two media: sound and image. Each medium generates different experiences, and each medium is a laboratory. A concrete sound, a field recording, a shader: each of them has the potential to illuminate a different aspect of the same inquiry.
The gap is not error (whether sought or not), nor is it chance or randomness, nor a generative approach to creation. It is that observable and unforeseen behaviour that emerges between the programming and the execution of a programme. It manifests precisely because it was not accounted for; it is a behavioural emergence of the system.
I begin with what might be a somehow familiar physical behaviour, observable, for example, in a sound or in a movement, and, through the modelling of such material, arrive at a behaviour that emerges only through deliberate interventions. What “transforms”, and what is perceived as a modification, are the positions of the various elements within the system to which they belong; what I create are configurations within a material or between materials.
For me, a fragment is an aphorism, a condensed thought; it has a local coherence without having a global coherence.
If a system is a closed configuration, fragmentation (rather than atomisation) allows for the exploration of micro-systems, that is, transient configurations subject to the permutation and commutation of their elements. An aphorism is a micro-system.
My syntax is paratactic : from fragment to fragment, without hierarchies. The shifts of terms within the syntax give rise to new configurations, that is, new thoughts and new concepts.
My research is directed towards the tension between control and emergence. I am more interested in the potentialities of what might come into being through the organisation of materials than in any “ultimate” result. An anti-systemic practice without being a-systematic.
